A substantial variety
of birds has been seen at Wildcliff.
We have built a pond
with an island for the wildlife, and already it has attracted a
pair
of Blue Cranes, South Africa's endangered national bird. Perched on the
"W" above is a Cape
Sugarbird,
lover of proteas. Others include:
- Raptors: eagles,
buzzards and owls
- Sunbirds: several
varieties
- Kingfishers and
flycatchers
- Herons, storks,
cranes and
geese
- Migrants, such as the
"Piet-my-vrou"
- and
of course the ubiquitous hadedas.
A list of bird
sightings with common names & scientific names is shown below. An updated list
(Feb 2010) is attached here, with just common names. If
