Wildcliff is a nature
reserve in the Langeberg mountain range of South Africa’s Western Cape.
Three local
freshwater species are found in rivers such as those running through
Wildcliff. These are the
Cape Kurper, the Smallscale Redfin minnow, and the Cape Galaxias.
One, the Cape Kurper, has been
found in the Wildekrantz river, and Cape
Galaxias have been netted in the Peterkloof stream as well as in
Wildekrantz. We would
like to
know more about these fish and their habitats, and try to ensure their
conservation. We seek volunteer researchers willing to conduct a
study of these fish – their presence and conservation priorities. A
preliminary survey with suggestions for further research may be found here.
