Fynbos of Wildcliff
The Proteoids

The proteoids are the tallest shrubs in fynbos. They reach 1 to 3 metres in height and have large, leathery leaves and prominent plowers. They include the Aulas, Leucadendron, Leucospermum, Mimetes, Orothamnus, Paranomus, Protea and Vexatorella species.

Proteoids encompass a wide range of shrub shapes and floral forms.

The proteas at Wildcliff include Protea nerifolia, P. cynaroides, P. speciosa, P. aurea, P. coronata, Mimetes cucullatus, Leucadendron eucalyptifolium, Leucospermum cuneiforme, and more. Some of these can be seen on the Protea Slideshow.
